SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are set to welcome back right-hander Logan Gilbert to their starting rotation, as confirmed by manager Dan Wilson on Sunday. Gilbert will be starting against the Boston Red Sox on Monday after being activated from the 15-day injured list.

Gilbert, aged 28, has been sidelined since April 26 due to a strain in his right elbow flexor. During his rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Tacoma, he made three appearances, in which he recorded an ERA of 2.79 and struck out 11 batters over 9 ? innings without securing a win or loss.

Before his injury this season, Gilbert’s performance for the Mariners was impressive, boasting a 1-1 record with a 2.37 ERA across six starts. Over 30 1/3 innings, he struck out 44 batters while issuing only six walks.

In the previous season, Gilbert was a strong contender for the AL Cy Young Award, finishing sixth in the voting. He posted a 9-12 record with a 3.23 ERA. Throughout his five major league seasons, Gilbert has consistently made at least 32 starts annually, accumulating a record of 42-31 with an ERA of 3.55.

Gilbert’s return comes at a crucial time for the Seattle Mariners, who have faced challenges in their rotation due to injuries. The team’s starters have compiled a 4.09 ERA this season, ranking them 18th in the majors. This is a drop from last year’s performance when the Mariners’ rotation led the league with the lowest ERA.
