BALTIMORE — The Detroit Tigers have announced that pitcher Jackson Jobe will be undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, putting an end to his current season. The operation, which is yet to be scheduled, will be carried out by Dr. Keith Meister, who serves as a team physician and orthopedic consultant for the Texas Rangers.
“This is obviously tough news for us,” remarked Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg. “Our heart goes out to Jackson. It’s clear to everyone that his talent is exceptional, and he has made a strong impression during his brief time with the team. He is a determined young man, and we are confident he will get through this setback.”
Jobe, a rookie at 22 years old, had an initial record of 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA over 10 starts after being included in Detroit’s opening-day lineup. He was placed on the 15-day injured list subsequent to a Grade 1 right flexor strain occurring after his appearance on May 28.
Greenberg explained, “During our standard medical review processes, further evaluations were sought. It was through these that a UCL injury was identified. Conversations ensued among Jackson, the medical staff, and doctors, concluding that surgery would be necessary.”
Chosen as the third overall pick in the 2021 amateur draft, Jobe was ranked as the Tigers’ third top prospect in 2024 by MLB.com. The talented right-hander made appearances in two relief games towards the end of last season, followed by two more in the American League playoffs.
Currently, Detroit boasted the American League’s top record of 44-25, despite acknowledging a 10-1 loss to Baltimore on Wednesday night.
