NASHVILLE, Tenn. — During a rehab outing with Triple-A Nashville, Milwaukee Brewers’ right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff was hit on his throwing elbow by a line drive. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a batted ball off the bat of Gwinnett’s Cade Bunnell struck Woodruff with a fierce exit velocity of 108 mph.

Following the game, Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy provided an update after the Brewers’ 4-2 defeat against Cincinnati. Murphy shared that initial X-rays of Woodruff’s elbow appeared negative, minimizing immediate concern over a serious injury. However, Woodruff is scheduled to undergo a CT scan on Wednesday to further assess the situation.

This unfortunate event might contribute to additional delays in Woodruff’s much-anticipated return to Major League Baseball. Woodruff, a two-time All-Star, has been absent from major league games since September 23, 2023. He was sidelined during the Brewers’ postseason run due to a shoulder injury that subsequently required surgery, keeping him from pitching last year.

Most recently, Woodruff was on the verge of making a comeback to the major leagues as he was preparing to leave Nashville. However, his progress hit a roadblock last month due to tendinitis in his right ankle, which postponed his return.
