MILAN – The Inter Milan family mourns the passing of former club president, Ernesto Pellegrini, who has passed away at the age of 84. His death coincides with the day Inter Milan competes in the Champions League final.

In a heartfelt tribute on their website, Inter Milan recognized Pellegrini’s pivotal role during his 11-year tenure as president, noting his wise and honorable leadership that left a lasting legacy within the club. This announcement came just hours before their much-anticipated face-off against Paris Saint-Germain, with aspirations of becoming European champions.

Born in Milan in 1940, Pellegrini, as reported by Italian media, had been battling a lung infection. Despite his health struggles, his contributions to the club are fondly remembered.

Known for his success in the catering and services industry, Pellegrini served as Inter Milan’s 17th president from 1984 to 1995. His era marked significant achievements for the club, notably clinching the Serie A title in 1989 and securing the UEFA Cup twice. He was instrumental in enhancing the team by bringing notable German players such as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Lothar Matthäus, Andreas Brehme, and Jürgen Klinsmann. Pellegrini eventually handed over his shares to Massimo Moratti in 1995, marking the end of his influential tenure.
