HARRISON, N.J. — In an electrifying match, Emil Forsberg dazzled with two goals and two assists, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also found the net twice, leading the New York Red Bulls to a resounding 7-0 victory against the LA Galaxy. The match was held on Saturday night and marked the continuation of the defending MLS Cup champions’ winless streak.

The LA Galaxy have now reached a concerning milestone, as this game extends their streak to 12 games without a win this season, a record for the MLS. Their previous league victory came on December 7th when they managed a 2-1 triumph over the Red Bulls to seize the 2024 MLS Cup.

This overwhelming victory for New York ties their club record for goals in a single game, a record initially set in a 2016 clash against New York City FC. Emil Forsberg achieved a rare feat in team history, becoming only the second player after Antony De Avila to score multiple goals and assist multiple goals in an MLS game.

Choupo-Moting started the scoring early, striking in the seventh minute with a precise shot from the right center that nestled into the side netting. Displaying his veteran prowess in his debut MLS season, he notched his second goal in the 31st minute, after receiving a well-placed pass from Forsberg, bringing New York to a 3-0 lead.

Forsberg’s brilliance was on full display as he capitalized on a forward pass from Omar Valencia to break behind the defense and slot the ball past goalkeeper John McCarthy, advancing New York to a 2-0 lead by the 16th minute. Further showcasing his skill, Forsberg’s long-range free kick found the back of the net just under the crossbar, pushing the score to 4-0 in the 50th minute.

The scoring spree continued as Cameron Harper, who entered the match in the 67th minute, wasted no time in adding his first goal of the season just a minute later. Dennis Gjengaar contributed to the tally in the 88th minute, and an unfortunate own goal by LA’s Miki Yamane in stoppage time sealed the emphatic 7-0 result.
