MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Carson Young delivered an impressive performance on Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Classic, achieving an eagle with a 30-yard flop shot at the par-5 15th hole. The South Carolina native scooped a 7-under 64 despite rainy conditions in the third round held at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Young, originally from Anderson, South Carolina and a former player for Clemson, accumulated a total of 13-under 200, placing him at the forefront of the leaderboard. Reflecting on the event, Young expressed his enthusiasm, “Having family around along with significant cheering from friends is amazing. It’s nostalgic to play in my home state hearing the familiar ‘Go Tigers!’ chants.”

Trailing just one stroke behind Young was Harry Higgs, who managed a 68 for the day. “I’m thrilled to have shot under par,” Higgs commented, acknowledging the weather by adding, “The rain isn’t my forte.”

The stakes are high at this PGA Tour event, occurring alongside the Truist Championship’s marquee tournament, as victory secures the winner a place in the PGA Championship, barring already existing eligibility.

Still seeking his first PGA Tour win, Young continued his strong play with birdies at the par-5 13th and par-4 16th, navigating a four-hole stretch at 4 under overall. “Honestly, it was incredibly fun despite the rain because I kept sinking putts and executing precise chip shots,” Young remarked. “The round was about solid, effective play without any excessive flair. It was just really sound golf.”

Elsewhere, Mackenzie Hughes fell two shots behind with a round of 70, having started brilliantly with a first-round score of 63, followed by Friday’s 69 to share the lead initially. Meanwhile, Victor Perez recorded a 66 to join fellow competitors Ryan Fox (68), Davis Shore (70), Norman Xiong (69), and Danny Walker (70) in a cluster at 10 under.
