MANILA, Philippines — Tragedy struck on Sunday morning at Manila’s airport when a vehicle slammed into an entrance, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a young girl, as confirmed by local authorities.
Conflicting reports emerged regarding the age of the girl, with the Philippine Red Cross stating she was 4 years old, while Secretary of Transportation Vivencio Hizon reported her age as 5 years old. In addition to the young victim, an adult male also lost his life in the unfortunate incident, according to a statement by the humanitarian organization.
Three more people sustained injuries due to the crash and subsequently received medical treatment at a hospital, according to Hizon. The driver responsible for the vehicle is currently being held by police, as stated by New NAIA Infra Co, the airport’s management.
Upon arrival at the scene, numerous emergency responders surrounded a black SUV that had smashed into a wall near an entrance of Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The damaged vehicle was later cleared from the site as investigations commenced.
The airport operator has confirmed that it is actively working alongside authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash.
