BOSTON โ€” During a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday evening, Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong suffered a fracture to his left pinky finger. This injury occurred during the first inning when Wong was called for catcherโ€™s interference after George Springerโ€™s bat made contact with Wongโ€™s glove as he stood behind the plate with two outs in the first inning.

Following the incident, Red Sox manager Alex Cora, accompanied by a team trainer, approached Wong to assess his condition. Despite the discomfort, Wong continued to play, catching a few warmup pitches from starting pitcher Richard Fitts, and completed the inning. However, he did not return for the second inning and was substituted by catcher Carlos Narvรกez.

After the game, which ended in a 6-2 victory for the Blue Jays, Manager Cora provided an update on Wongโ€™s injury. โ€œHe has a small fracture on the pinky area, so heโ€™s going on the IL,โ€ Cora explained. The timeline for Wongโ€™s recovery remains uncertain, as Cora noted, โ€œHow long, we donโ€™t know. Late swing got him good. Weโ€™re going to have to make a move.โ€
