WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals halted their four-game losing streak with a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, taking the game 4-3. In the first inning, James Wood’s two-run double sailed over center fielder Alek Thomas, bringing in runs during a three-run rally. Josh Bell contributed with his third triple since 2022, increasing the Nationals’ lead.

Mitchell Parker, throwing six solid innings, earned his second win, allowing only one run, two hits, and four walks. Kyle Finnegan closed out the game, securing his second save despite allowing an RBI single to Thomas. The victory was clinched when catcher Riley Adams successfully nabbed Thomas trying to steal second base for the game’s final out.

In his major league start, second baseman Tim Tawa was promoted by Arizona to replace the injured Ketel Marte. Tawa, nearing his 26th birthday, went 1-for-3. He made a notable single to left field in his opening at-bat during the third inning, later walked, and scored off Randal Grichuk’s single. Tawa also contributed with a run-scoring forceout in the seventh.

Starting for the Diamondbacks, Eduardo Rodriguez allowed four runs on five hits over five innings, marking his first 12-strikeout game since September 2019, when he pitched for Boston against Philadelphia. Interestingly, this game marked the first time the Diamondbacks didn’t hit a home run this season.

In a crucial moment during the seventh inning, Nationals reliever Jose A. Ferrer secured the lead by retiring Corbin Carroll on a flyout, preventing Arizona from capitalizing with two runners on base.

Rodriguez, who is about to turn 32, had previously enjoyed scoreless outings against Washington in three appearances, all hosted at Nationals Park.

Looking ahead to the series finale on Sunday, Arizona will send RHP Corbin Burnes, with an ERA of 4.15, to the mound, while Washington will counter with RHP Trevor Williams, boasting a 5.40 ERA.
