LOWELL, Mass. — Shiann Darkangelo achieved a notable milestone in the Premier Hockey Federation League (PHWL) by scoring her first hat trick against her former team. Her performance powered the Ottawa Charge to a decisive 4-0 victory over the Boston Fleet on Wednesday evening. This match wrapped up the league’s schedule before the commencement of a three-week hiatus to accommodate the IIHF Women’s World Championship.
With the win, Ottawa (11-1-4-11) climbed up to fourth place in the standings, surpassing Minnesota. This victory marked the second consecutive game in which Ottawa secured three points against Boston.
Darkangelo made an immediate impact by scoring a power-play goal just 45 seconds into the game. She was positioned perfectly in front of the net to redirect a pass from Anna Meixner through the legs of Boston’s goaltender, Aerin Frankel.
The forward continued her impressive performance by netting another goal midway through the second period, extending Ottawa’s lead to 2-0. Ronja Savolainen played a crucial role by dropping off the puck to Darkangelo while drawing defenders away, allowing an open shot opportunity.
In the third period, Darkangelo completed her hat trick with her eighth goal of the season. Her one-timer was deflected off Sydney Bard’s skate at 6:29, sealing the win for Ottawa. This marked the third hat trick for Ottawa this season, with the other two credited to Tereza Vanišová.
Rookie goaltender Gwyneth Philips delivered an outstanding performance for Ottawa, marking her fifth consecutive start and securing her second shutout of the season. Emma Söderberg took over goaltending duties for the Fleet at the start of the third period, replacing Frankel.
The defeat was a setback for the Fleet (8-6-4-9), who had returned to the Tsongas Center for the first time since March 18. It was only their second defeat in nine home games this season. During the match, Ottawa’s defender Zoe Boyd was penalized with a five-minute major and a game misconduct in the third period.
