NEW DELHI — Former LIV Golf competitor Eugenio Chacarra emerged victorious at the Indian Open on Sunday, marking his first-ever European tour triumph. Chacarra delivered a steady 1-under 71 during the final round, culminating at 4-under overall, seizing the win in his ninth European tour event. He led by two strokes over Japan’s Keita Nakajima, who kept pace with an even-par 72 during the tournament’s conclusion.
Chacarra, who entered the tournament through an invitation, notched his win in his fifth LIV start. Nevertheless, he was excluded from the Fireballs team lineup for the 2025 season by compatriot and fellow golfer Sergio Garcia. Expressing his appreciation, Chacarra remarked, “I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” extending his gratitude to the event organizers. “You guys probably changed my life from today, so thanks for that.”
The 25-year-old began the final day at DLF Golf and Country Club with a narrow one-shot advantage but faced a difficult start, with a double bogey on the opening hole and a bogey by the third, reverting him to level-par for the week. Displaying resilience, he recovered with five birdies over nine holes, reclaiming and maintaining the lead despite a setback with a bogey on the 17th hole.
“It was a tough day,” Chacarra reflected, acknowledging the significant pressure and the disappointing start. “I know when I play my best, I’m one of the best players in the world; I’ve already proved that a million times.”
