PARIS — The European nations standing with Ukraine have differing views on whether to deploy an armed force to support a prospective peace agreement in the region. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, while there is support for this initiative, not every ally is on board.
Macron emphasized on Thursday that unanimous agreement is not necessary for the initiative to move forward. France and the United Kingdom, spearheading the effort, are determined to press ahead regardless.
“There is not a unanimous consensus,” he remarked. “But we don’t need unanimity to proceed.” Macron assured that a reassurance force, comprised of various European countries, will indeed be deployed as part of this plan.
The project is poised to involve a collaboration of several countries, although only some have expressed willingness to participate. Despite differing opinions, the two leading nations, France and Britain, remain committed to gathering enough support to establish this contingent.
