JUNEAU, Alaska — On Monday, a man along with two children were discovered with non-life-threatening injuries near the site of a small plane crash on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. This incident came to light after the aircraft, reported missing the previous evening, was located by authorities.
The trio, identified as the pilot and two young passengers, were transported to a hospital following the discovery of the wreckage Monday morning near Tustumena Lake’s eastern side. According to the Alaska State Troopers, all three are members of the same immediate family, shared Austin McDaniel, the spokesperson for the troopers.
The state authorities had been previously notified on Sunday night about a Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser that was overdue. Tustumena Lake as well as the Kenai Mountains, positioned east of Homer, were listed as potential locations during the search. Notably, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game describes Tustumena Lake, which spans 60,000 acres (24,200 hectares), as being “notorious for its sudden dangerous winds,” which might have contributed to the accident.
The town of Homer, where the plane was thought to have ventured, is located on the Kenai Peninsula approximately 220 miles (354 kilometers) southwest of Anchorage.
