Cardenas’ 16 Points Propel Boise State Over San Diego State

    LAS VEGAS — Boise State emerged victorious in a 62-52 battle against San Diego State on Thursday during the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Broncos, seeded fifth with a season record of 23-9, are scheduled to challenge top-seeded New Mexico in the semifinals on Friday.

    Alvaro Cardenas Torre led the Broncos with a standout performance, scoring 16 points. His shooting included 4 of 13 from behind the three-point line and a perfect 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Support came from Tyson Degenhart, who added 14 points to the tally, shooting 5 for 12 overall and 2 for 7 from the three-point range, while also collecting seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Andrew Meadow contributed 12 points, converting 4 of 13 shots, 2 for 8 from beyond the arc, and going 2 of 5 from the free-throw line.

    On the Aztecs’ side, Nicholas Boyd was a standout performer, finishing with 20 points. In the first half, Cardenas Torre managed to score eight points, but Boise State still found themselves trailing 33-28 at halftime. However, they capitalized on a robust second-half showing, wherein Meadow added nine points, which helped turn the game in their favor.
