SURPRISE, Ariz. — Texas Rangers’ pitcher Cody Bradford, a left-hander, will begin the season on the injured list due to elbow discomfort in his pitching arm.

An MRI conducted earlier this week indicated no structural damage, but Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced on Thursday that the team has decided to rest Bradford for ten days to monitor his recovery. This decision comes after he was removed from a planned start on Wednesday.

Bradford’s injury is the second setback for the Rangers’ starting rotation this week, with fellow pitcher Tyler Mahle also experiencing issues. Mahle was withdrawn from a start due to forearm strain but is anticipated to resume throwing within the next several days.

The 27-year-old Bradford showed promise last season, securing a record of 6-3 with an ERA of 3.54 across 13 starts. The previous year, he made eight appearances, contributing significantly. Bradford was also a part of the Rangers’ roster during five playoff games in their successful 2023 World Series journey.
