Dent shines with 25, New Mexico ousts SJSU in MWC 63-52

    In their quarterfinal matchup in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, the University of New Mexico Lobos triumphed over San Jose State with a score of 63-52. The game, held in Las Vegas, saw Donovan Dent lead the Lobos to victory with an impressive 25 points. Dent also contributed five assists, playing a pivotal role in New Mexico’s win and bringing their season record to 26-6.

    Nelly Junior Joseph was another standout player for New Mexico, scoring 14 points, despite hitting just 6 out of 16 from the field and 2 of 5 from the free-throw line. His performance was bolstered by grabbing 18 rebounds, a game high. Tru Washington added to the Lobos’ tally with 11 points, shooting 5 for 12 from the field and 1 for 4 from three-point range.

    On the opposing side, San Jose State was led by Sadaidriene Hall, who scored 13 points and collected eight rebounds for the Spartans, who end their season with a 15-19 record. Robert Vaihola added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, contributing crucial support for his team. Josh Uduje also chipped in with 10 points, along with two steals and two blocks.

    The Lobos grabbed the lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first half and maintained it for the remainder of the game. They entered halftime leading 32-23, with Dent scoring 15 of those points before the break. New Mexico extended their advantage in the second half with an 8-0 run, establishing a 40-25 lead just a few minutes in.
