NEW YORK — Calgary Flames’ forward Connor Zary has been given a two-game suspension following an incident in which he elbowed Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson. The altercation occurred during Vancouver’s 4-3 shootout win over Calgary.
The incident took place in the first period of the match on Wednesday night. At 11:19, Zary was penalized for interference due to his actions against Pettersson. The 23-year-old will forego $8,993 in salary as a result of the suspension.
The series of events began when the 20-year-old Pettersson knocked Calgary’s Nazem Kadri to the ice as Kadri was about to cross the blue line, having just gotten rid of the puck. In response, Zary executed a blindsided hit on Pettersson, which resulted in the penalty.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that an earlier reporting had inaccuracies as it mistakenly attributed a tying and shootout goal to Pettersson.
