Council, Jones Propel St. Bonaventure to 64-59 Win

    WASHINGTON — In an exciting match at the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, St. Bonaventure secured a 64-59 win over Duquesne, largely thanks to the efforts of Lajae Jones and Melvin Council Jr. Both players netted 18 points each, guiding their team to success in Thursday’s game.

    St. Bonaventure, holding the No. 8 seed with a record of 22-10, is now set to face the top-seeded team, VCU, in the quarterfinals scheduled for Friday.

    Jones made a significant contribution beyond scoring with his eight rebounds and three steals, showcasing his all-around skills on the court. His teammate, Council, was impressive as well, converting 7 of 14 shots from the field and hitting 4 out of 5 free throws, coupled with gathering four steals.

    For Duquesne, which ends the season with a 13-19 record, Maximus Edwards matched the game-high score with 18 points and added six rebounds to his name. Matus Hronsky contributed with 11 points, while Tre Dinkins chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

    The game saw St. Bonaventure trailing at halftime with a score of 34-25, but Jones stepped up in the second half, scoring 12 crucial points to help secure the win.
