ROME โ€” Gucci revealed on Thursday that Demna, the artistic director from Balenciaga, will assume creative leadership at the prestigious Italian luxury fashion house starting in July.

The statement from Gucci and its French parent company, Kering, highlighted Demnaโ€™s achievements, stating he has โ€œredefined modern luxury, earning global recognition and cementing his authority on the industry.โ€

For a decade, Demna has been a central figure at Kering-owned Balenciaga, bringing his unique vision as an artistic director.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Demna stated, โ€œI am truly excited to join the Gucci family. It is an honor to contribute to a house that I deeply respect and have long admired.โ€

Just four days prior, he showcased his final Balenciaga collection in Paris, opting for a more saleable outlook by scaling back on theatrics.

This announcement puts an end to the rumors surrounding Gucciโ€™s creative leadership following the unexpected departure of Sabato De Sarno only two and a half weeks before the Fall-Winter 2025-26 collection was revealed at Milan Fashion Week last month.

De Sarno had succeeded Alessandro Michele, who had previously transformed Gucci with his gender-fluid, eclectic, and romantic collections, reshaping the iconic brandโ€™s identity. Despite the impact of Micheleโ€™s innovations, not all his collections resonated with consumers.
