In Los Angeles, wide receiver Puka Nacua of the Rams has opted to give up his No. 17 jersey to new team member Davante Adams, choosing instead to don No. 12.

The Rams revealed on Tuesday that Nacua would be returning to his favored number, which he wore during his high school career and again in college while playing for both Washington and BYU. Nacua had spent his first two seasons with the Rams wearing No. 17, marking a significant period that included a highly successful rookie year. This initial choice was made when fellow receiver Van Jefferson occupied the No. 12 spot.

Now that No. 12 is up for grabs, Nacua gladly transitions back to it. Apart from its personal significance, having also been worn by his brothers, Nacua describes the number as “a piece of armor” that symbolizes his family’s unwavering support and protection.

Davante Adams, acquiring No. 17, continues his tradition, having sported the same number during his prolific journeys with previous NFL teams, notably throughout his eight productive seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Adams, a player with six Pro Bowl appearances and three All-Pro selections, recently finalized a two-year contract with Los Angeles valued at up to $46 million.

As Nacua steps into No. 12, the young standout is positioned to ascend further in his career. His remarkable record features 184 receptions, ranking fourth in league history for a player’s initial two years. His 2,476 yards are equally impressive, holding seventh place in historical comparisons. In the playoffs, his contributions have remained substantial, totaling 20 catches and 322 receiving yards over three games.

This transition correlates with forthcoming changes in the Rams’ roster, given star player Cooper Kupp’s expected departure either through trade or release.
