WARSAW, Poland — Poland’s Prime Minister revealed plans on Tuesday for a substantial military training initiative designed to involve 100,000 volunteers annually from 2027. This is an effort to establish a vast pool of army reservists due to increasing concerns over Russia’s actions.

The Prime Minister also indicated that Cabinet ministers, along with other government officials, will take part in military training. This proposal has reportedly garnered full support and understanding from his cabinet.

A recent announcement made it clear that Poland seeks to expand its military forces to 500,000 personnel, which is more than double its current count. This figure includes trained reservists alongside the existing professional military and territorial defense units.

The sense of urgency has been heightened in the region on NATO’s eastern border, as Russia continues its aggressive tactics with missile and drone strikes in Ukraine. There are also uncertainties surrounding the U.S. administration’s commitments to NATO, which adds to Poland’s security considerations.

On Friday, the Prime Minister discussed the government’s efforts to implement a military training program aimed at including all Polish men, elaborating further on the details in his Tuesday statement.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that volunteers will be eager to join, delivering these remarks in a broadcast address to his ministers and the public.

In the previous year, reports indicated Poland’s military personnel strength stood at approximately 200,000, with plans to expand to 220,000 by the end of the current year. This development aligns with the broader goal to elevate the number of soldiers to about 300,000.
