NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have reportedly agreed to a three-year extension with defensive end Chase Young, worth up to $57 million, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. While the extension is yet to be officially announced, this information provides a significant boost to the Saints’ defense.
Young, who will turn 26 next season, was initially drafted second overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by Washington after a standout college career at Ohio State. This past season marked his debut with New Orleans, where he made an impact by playing in all 17 games. Young’s contributions included 5.5 sacks, eight tackles for a loss, 21 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble.
With this new extension, Young is set to be a key player in a revamped defense under the leadership of first-year head coach Kellen Moore and newly appointed defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. The Saints’ decision to secure Young’s services is part of a broader strategy to enhance their defensive lineup.
Apart from Young’s extension, New Orleans has made another significant move by acquiring Davon Godchaux from the New England Patriots. In exchange for this 6-foot-3, 330-pound defensive tackle, the Saints will send a late-round draft pick to New England in 2026.
Godchaux, a Louisiana native and former LSU player, has been a consistent starter for the Patriots over the past four seasons, missing only one game. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has highlighted Godchaux’s enthusiasm about returning home to play professionally in Louisiana, calling it a “dream come true” for the veteran player.
Currently, Godchaux is under contract for two more seasons and is expected to bolster the Saints’ defensive performance. Last year, the team ranked second worst in the NFL for rushing yards allowed, with an average of 141.4 yards per game.
