GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Los Angeles Dodgers, reigning World Series champions, appear to be on the verge of securing manager Dave Roberts for an extended tenure as numerous reports indicate a new contract is in the works. The proposed agreement suggests Roberts would receive a four-year contract worth $32.4 million, keeping him with the Dodgers potentially until 2029. This contract could position Roberts as the highest-earning manager by average salary, surpassing Chicago Cubs’ manager Craig Counsell’s upcoming deal.

Roberts himself has hinted at progress without confirming the details. “I can’t elaborate much, but I think we’re nearing some closure,” he mentioned. “I’m eager about the opportunities ahead, and this is definitely where I want to be. More details should be revealed soon, but for now, we await the official word.”

As the Dodgers prepare for their season opener against the Chicago Cubs on March 18 in Tokyo, Roberts is set to begin his tenth year with the Dodgers. Throughout his tenure, Roberts has ensured the team never falls below 91 wins in a non-shortened season. With a .627 winning percentage, he leads the pack among current MLB managers, guiding the Dodgers to World Series victories in 2020 and 2024.

At 52, Roberts has demonstrated remarkable leadership by managing a clubhouse replete with standout talent. He’s been instrumental in integrating international stars like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki into the team framework. “Apart from on-field performance, there are critical off-field matters to consider,” noted Roberts. “My priority remains on our players and the Dodgers’ ethos, and I would like to believe I’ve maintained that focus well. I’m looking forward to finalizing this part of the journey.”

Shohei Ohtani, under Roberts’ stewardship, clinched his third MVP title in 2024, achieving an unprecedented milestone of tallying over 50 homers and 50 stolen bases within the same season.

Before managing, Roberts spent a decade as an MLB player from 1999 to 2008. As an outfielder, he served 2 1/2 seasons with the Dodgers and contributed to the Boston Red Sox’s World Series win in 2004.
