TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are solidifying their lineup by retaining wide receiver Chris Godwin and acquiring two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick, according to sources familiar with the transactions. Both moves are expected to have significant impacts on the team’s performance.

Although the Buccaneers have not formally announced these decisions, insiders have shared details indicating a commitment to enhance the team’s competitiveness. Chris Godwin, who is making a comeback from a severe ankle injury, has secured a three-year contract worth $66 million, with $44 million guaranteed. This contract reflects his value to the team, having recorded 50 receptions for 576 yards over a limited seven-game appearance last season. Godwin, alongside Mike Evans, has been instrumental in forming one of the most formidable receiver duos in the NFL, contributing to Tampa Bay’s dominance in the NFC South with four consecutive championships.

Between the years 2019 and 2023, Godwin maintained impressive stats, averaging 87 receptions, 1,065 yards, and five touchdowns per season, showcasing his consistency and skill on the field.

Additionally, the Buccaneers are fortifying their defense by bringing in Haason Reddick on a one-year deal valued at $14 million, which includes $12 million in guaranteed money. Despite a challenging 2024 season set back by a holdout with the New York Jets, Reddick’s previous performance with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he accumulated 27 sacks over two seasons, speaks volumes of his talent. He consistently achieved double-digit sacks for four consecutive seasons from 2020 to 2023. This move marks Reddick’s fifth team in his nine-year NFL career.

Amidst this strategic shuffle, the Buccaneers are focusing on bolstering their pass rush capabilities. Head Coach Todd Bowles has emphasized the necessity of applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks without relying heavily on blitzing, a strategy that adding Reddick is likely to support effectively.

These strategic enhancements signal Tampa Bay’s dedication to maintaining their competitive edge in the NFL and their aspiration to continue their dominance within their division.
