MILAN — Inter Milan is facing a setback as midfielder Piotr Zielinski is likely to be sidelined for several weeks following a calf strain.
The injury will prevent Zielinski from participating in the upcoming Champions League round of 16 match against Feyenoord on Tuesday.
The Polish player sustained the injury during Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Monza in Serie A, after coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute.
Zielinski was forced to leave the pitch only three minutes later due to the injury.
According to a statement released on Monday by the club, Zielinski strained the medial gastrocnemius muscle in his right calf.
Throughout the season, he has made 33 appearances for Inter across various competitions and scored two goals.
Despite Zielinski’s absence, Inter Milan will see the return of their first-choice goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.
Sommer, who missed the past three matches due to a broken thumb, is expected to be back in the starting lineup for the clash against Feyenoord.
Inter’s head coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed on Monday that Sommer would be starting in goal.
