Emerging talent in the rap scene, Doechii, has been recognized as Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, joining the ranks of past icons such as Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and the previous year’s honoree, Karol G.

This accolade was announced one month after Doechii clinched the Grammy for best rap album, marking her as only the third female artist to achieve this feat in the category. During her emotional acceptance speech, Doechii remarked on the rarity of her win, jokingly correcting herself mid-sentence to note the other women who have triumphed in the past, including Lauryn Hill and Cardi B, before herself.

In recognition of her achievements, Doechii will be officially honored as Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 29. This event has previously celebrated notable artists like Madonna, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.

The year 2024 further underscored Doechii’s artistic impact when her debut mixtape, “Alligator Bites Never Heal,” was hailed by critics as one of the standout albums of the year. The project is praised for its blend of evocative R&B melodies and sharply insightful rap verses.

“Doechii is revolutionizing pop culture,” noted Hannah Karp, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard, in her statement. “This year, Doechii made history as the third woman to secure a Grammy for best rap album, captivating fans across diverse music genres with her powerful performances, forthright lyrics, and distinct sound and style. We eagerly celebrate Doechii’s success and anticipate her bright future.”

The Billboard Women in Music Awards will also recognize other talented artists, including aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Jennie from Blackpink, Megan Moroney, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, and Tyla.

Set to be hosted by Laverne Cox, the awards ceremony will take place at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles. Fans can watch the program live on March 29 at 7 p.m. Pacific time on VIZIO WatchFree+.
