DENVER — The Chicago Blackhawks have called up defenseman Artyom Levshunov, bringing him closer to his first NHL appearance. The 19-year-old, who was the second overall pick in the previous NHL draft, is expected to join the team as they prepare for their upcoming games.

Levshunov has been showcasing his skills with the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League, recording five goals and 17 assists over 50 games. His current season was delayed due to a fractured right foot, but he has since recovered and is eyeing an opportunity to make an impact with the Blackhawks.

Currently, the team is at the bottom of the standings and is gearing up to face the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. Following that game, they will travel to San Jose for a Thursday night matchup and then finish a four-game road trip in Vancouver on Saturday night.

Originating from Belarus, Levshunov had an impressive collegiate tenure at Michigan State, where he notched nine goals and 26 assists in his freshman year. His standout performance earned him accolades as both the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

In July, Levshunov committed to Chicago with a three-year entry-level contract, featuring an annual salary cap hit of $975,000. The organization and its fans eagerly await his anticipated debut, hopeful for a boost in their performance as the season progresses.
