    DAVIS, Calif. — In an impressive showdown on Saturday night, the UC San Diego Tritons secured a 68-57 win over the UC Davis Aggies, marking the end of the regular season for both teams.
    San Diego (28-4, 18-2 Big West Conference), enjoying a 13-game winning streak, celebrated their first regular-season conference championship since transitioning to Division I in 2020. This season marked UC San Diego’s eligibility for postseason play following a four-year transition period, earning them the No. 1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament in Henderson, Nevada. The Tritons are set to compete in the semifinals on Friday.
    Meanwhile, UC Davis, the sixth seed, is scheduled to face No. 7 seed Cal Poly in the opening round on Wednesday.
    Leading the charge for the Tritons, Tyler McGhie scored 18 points, shooting 5 for 15 overall, including an impressive 5 for 10 from beyond the arc, and maintained a perfect record from the free-throw line. Nordin Kapic was a standout with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones contributed 15 points with a strong performance at the free-throw line, shooting 9 of 12.
    The Aggies (15-16, 9-11) put up a formidable performance behind Leo DeBruhl, who scored 19 points alongside six assists and two steals. Pablo Tamba provided solid support with 13 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Additionally, Nils Cooper added nine points, and had an impressive 13 rebounds along with two steals. Unfortunately, this game extended the Aggies’ losing streak to six straight games.
