SAN JOSE, Calif. — Kelvin Yeboah netted a second consecutive game-winning goal while Dayne St. Clair added two crucial saves as Minnesota United defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on Saturday night.
Yeboah effectively back-heeled a volley to score in the 38th minute. Tani Oluwaseyi skillfully rose above two defenders from the end line to flick a header toward the right corner of the area. Michael Boxall then delivered a precise side-foot pass to Yeboah, who finished clinically from near the penalty spot.
Dayne St. Clair has excelled in goal this season, stopping seven of the eight shots directed at him and maintaining back-to-back shutouts for Minnesota, who now boast a record of 2-1-0.
Despite San Jose’s (2-1-0) dominance in ball possession at 68% and 15 total shots, it was Minnesota who had the upper hand with six shots on target compared to San Jose’s three.
The Earthquakes, coming off a strong start to the season with a 4-0 victory over Real Salt Lake in their home opener and a 2-1 away win against Sporting Kansas City last week, entered the match tied for the best goal-scoring margin in Major League Soccer with a plus-five differential.
