The Washington Commanders have secured the services of seasoned tight end Zach Ertz with a fresh one-year contract. This agreement includes $6.25 million in guaranteed money and can potentially reach a total of $9 million, as reported by a source familiar with the situation. The individual preferred to remain anonymous as the official announcement of the deal was still pending.
Ertz initially joined the Commanders as a free agent in March of last year. In his debut season with quarterback Jayden Daniels, he quickly became one of Daniels’ favored targets. Throughout the regular season, Ertz made a considerable impact by recording 66 receptions for 654 yards and securing seven touchdowns. His contributions extended into the postseason, where he added another 18 catches for 154 yards and scored a touchdown during Washington’s impressive journey to the NFC championship game.
A Super Bowl champion in 2017, Ertz breathed new life into his NFL career under the guidance of coach Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. His decision to re-sign with the team coincided with the return of six-time All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner, who was also brought back for the 2025 NFL season.
At 34 years old, Ertz began his NFL journey with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent more than eight seasons. Drafted in the second round out of Stanford in 2013, he earned selections to three consecutive Pro Bowl teams from 2017 to 2019 before being traded to Arizona midway through the 2021 season. Over his 12 NFL seasons, Ertz has accumulated an impressive career total of 775 receptions for 8,088 yards and 53 touchdowns.
