ALBANY, N.Y. — A thrilling contest saw Amar’e Marshall leading No. 4 seed Albany with 20 points, as they edged out fifth-seeded Binghamton in a tight 69-66 win during the quarterfinals of the America East Conference Playoffs on Saturday night.
Albany, which improved its record to 17-15, is set to take on the top-seeded Bryant, standing at 21-11, in an upcoming semifinal clash scheduled for Tuesday. The Great Danes, who had established a solid lead of 66-52 with just under seven minutes on the clock, faced a strong comeback from Binghamton. Binghamton closed the gap to 68-66 with less than two minutes remaining.
In the final moments, Amir Lindsey managed to add an extra point for Albany by making one of two free throws, expanding their lead slightly with just 11 seconds left. Binghamton’s Ben Callahan-Gold attempted a last-second 3-pointer but missed, ensuring Albany’s victory.
Marshall demonstrated efficiency, making 7 of his 14 shots, including a commendable 4 out of 8 from three-point range. Meanwhile, Byron Joshua contributed 16 points, and Lindsey added nine to Albany’s score.
Binghamton, falling to 15-17 with the loss, saw Nehemiah Benson emerge as their top scorer with 19 points, adding two blocks to his stellar performance. Tymu Chenery also made a significant contribution with 14 points and six rebounds, while Wes Peterson chipped in with eight points in the effort.
