WASHINGTON — George Beale played a pivotal role in Hampton University’s narrow victory over Northeastern, scoring 22 points to secure a 70-65 win in the second round of the Coastal Athletic Association Championship on Saturday. The victory sets up a quarterfinal clash for Hampton against UNC Wilmington, the tournament’s second seed, scheduled for Sunday.
Beale had an impressive performance, converting 8 of 14 field goal attempts, which included 3 successful shots from 3-point range. He was also perfect from the free-throw line, making all three attempts for the Pirates, who now hold a season record of 17-15. His teammate, Noah Farrakhan, also contributed significantly with 22 points, shooting 8 of 12 from the field, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc, and making 4 of 5 from the line. Xzavier Long added nine points, managing to score 3 of 6 from the field and was flawless from the free-throw line.
For Northeastern, Rashad King was the standout player, posting 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, as the team concluded their season also at 17-15. The Huskies saw additional support from LA Pratt, who scored 14 points, while Youri Fritz contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
During the first half of the game, Beale’s 10 points were crucial as Hampton found themselves trailing 37-29 at halftime. However, Hampton surged in the second half, largely thanks to Farrakhan’s 18-point effort, allowing them to overturn the deficit and secure a five-point win.
