NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — In an intense face-off on Saturday, Iona emerged victorious over Sacred Heart with a close scoreline of 90-88, thanks to an outstanding performance by Yaphet Moundi. Moundi was on fire, finishing with a stellar 24 points, alongside 14 rebounds and three steals, crucial for the Gaels’ (15-16, 12-8 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) win.
Supporting Moundi’s efforts, Dejour Reaves contributed with 19 points. His shooting was a mix, going 6 of 17 overall, including a solid 4 for 10 from three-point range, and 3 for 6 from the free-throw line. Reaves also showed defensive prowess with seven rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, Comeh Emuobor made his presence felt by scoring 16 points and shooting 6 for 11 from the field, including 2 for 5 from beyond the arc.
Sacred Heart’s effort was headlined by Tanner Thomas, who scored 20 points in the game. Bryce Johnson was pivotal with 17 points while also securing six rebounds, providing five assists, and making two steals for the Pioneers (14-17, 10-10). Griffin Barrouk also played a key role with his contribution of 17 points.
