Wilkerson shines with 32, Sam Houston beats New Mexico State

    HUNTSVILLE, Texas — In a nail-biting regular-season finale, Lamar Wilkerson’s impressive 32-point performance led Sam Houston to a 76-69 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. The thrilling clash set the stage for the upcoming Conference USA Tournament, which will take place from Tuesday to the following Saturday in Huntsville.

    Wilkerson showcased his all-around skills, contributing not only in scoring but also with five assists for the Bearkats, who wrapped up the season with a 13-18 record, including 6-12 in conference play. His teammate, Marcus Boykin, also played a pivotal role by adding 18 points, maintaining a perfect 6 for 6 from the free-throw line, and grabbing five rebounds. Josiah Hammons had a strong night as well, sinking five from eight field attempts, and impressively making five of seven from beyond the arc to contribute 15 points.

    For the Aggies, who concluded their season at 17-14 with a 10-8 conference standing, Robert Carpenter was a standout performer, leading with 20 points. Supporting Carpenter, Peter Filipovity offered a solid performance with 13 points and seven rebounds. Christian Cook also made his presence felt by contributing 12 points to New Mexico State’s efforts.

    Both teams are now setting their sights on the Conference USA Tournament, where they aim to continue their competitive endeavors and vie for the championship title.
