In Bogota, Colombia, a powerful landslide triggered by heavy rainfall resulted in the death of at least one individual in the country’s southwest region, as reported by local authorities. Additionally, three people are yet to be located.
The tragedy occurred when the victim’s vehicle was swept away by the landslide on Friday, stated Nicolás Toro, the mayor of Pasto, during an interview. Emergency response teams have been on site, searching and providing assistance to those in need.
Prior to the discovery of the body on Saturday, the National Risk Management Unit had reported that four individuals were unaccounted for, with a successful rescue of 38 others. The devastating event has impacted over 200 residents, causing damage to 65 homes and leaving many grappling with the aftermath.
Efforts are underway to address the consequences of the landslide, with heavy machinery being utilized to clear and reopen the compromised roads. Restoration of essential services, such as water supply, is a priority, particularly in the popular tourist area near the La Cocha lagoon, where services had been disrupted.
