PROVO, Utah — The Brigham Young University (BYU) women’s basketball team will experience a change in leadership as Coach Amber Whiting departs following her three-year tenure in charge of the Cougars, the university disclosed on Saturday.
Coach Whiting, who took the helm of the program in the 2022-23 season, compiled a record of 45 wins and 51 losses during her stint. Under her guidance, BYU participated in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT) last season. However, their performance this year resulted in a less favorable record of 13 wins to 17 losses.
This shift in coaching at BYU represents the third recent change within the Big 12 Conference, with Houston and Arizona State also opting for new leadership in their women’s basketball programs in recent days.
In the interim, BYU has announced that associate head coach Lee Cummard will assume the role of interim head coach for the women’s basketball team.
The decision marks a new chapter for the Cougars as they seek to strengthen their program and look toward future successes in the competitive landscape of women’s college basketball.
