SAN DIEGO — Tyler McGhie stood out by scoring 20 points, leading UC San Diego to a 70-63 victory over Long Beach State on Thursday.
McGhie also contributed with five rebounds for the Tritons, who now hold a record of 27-4 overall and 17-2 in the Big West Conference. Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones chipped in with 20 points, making 7 of 15 shots from the field and 6 of 9 from the free-throw line. Additionally, Hayden Gray made a notable impact by hitting three of seven three-point attempts, ending with nine points.
This win marks the Tritons’ 12th consecutive triumph.
On the other side, Devin Askew was resilient for Long Beach State, scoring 29 points. Derrick Michael Xzavierro contributed significantly with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Kam Martin added eight points to the team’s efforts. Unfortunately for Long Beach State, the loss extended their losing streak to 14 games.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled for more competition on Saturday. UC San Diego will travel to face UC Davis, whereas Long Beach State will take on Cal Poly at home.
