PINE BLUFF, Ark. — Daeshun Ruffin was instrumental in leading Jackson State to a 76-69 triumph over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Thursday.
Ruffin demonstrated his shooting prowess by hitting 8 of his 15 attempts from the field, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, contributing significantly to the Tigers’ overall record of 13-17, with a 13-4 standing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jayme Mitchell was also pivotal, scoring 19 points. He made 5 of his 9 shots, successfully converted 3 of 6 from three-point land, and excelled at the free-throw line with 6 of 7 shots, while also securing three steals. Romelle Mansel added to the scoring with 12 points, achieving 5 of 10 from the field and 2 of 4 from the charity stripe.
For the Golden Lions, who now stand at 6-24 and 3-14 in conference play, Doctor Bradley emerged as a key player, achieving 20 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and making two steals. Supporting him was Quentin Bolton Jr., who tallied 15 points and corralled seven rebounds. Caleb Jones contributed with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists, rounding out the team’s effort.
Looking ahead to Saturday, both teams are set to face new challenges. Jackson State is scheduled to face Mississippi Valley State on their turf, while the Golden Lions will have the home-court advantage when they take on Alcorn State.
