BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Don McHenry spearheaded Western Kentucky’s offense with an impressive 20 points, guiding them to a 76-67 triumph over Florida International on Thursday night.
McHenry also contributed five assists to the Hilltoppers (17-13, 8-9 Conference USA), demonstrating his all-around play. Khristian Lander was also a pivotal player, scoring 19 points while hitting 5 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. He was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, making 6 of 7 attempts, and also added four steals to his stat line. Tyrone Marshall added 11 points, converting 4 of 12 from the field and 2 of 9 from three-point territory.
On the other side, the Panthers (9-21, 3-14) were led by Vianney Salatchoum, whose dominant performance resulted in 21 points and six rebounds. Jayden Brewer supported with a solid contribution of 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Dashon Gittens chipped in with 11 points and four assists.
Western Kentucky managed to overcome a challenging situation by launching a crucial 10-0 run in the second half, overcoming a five-point deficit to seize the lead at 50-45 with 14:21 left in the game. Lander was particularly effective in the second half, securing 18 of his total points.
As the season wraps up, both teams are preparing for their final games on Saturday. Western Kentucky will face Liberty at home, while Florida International heads to take on Middle Tennessee.
