FLORENCE, Ala. — Jacari Lane and Daniel Ortiz spearheaded North Alabama to a commanding 78-63 win over Jacksonville, securing their spot in the finals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Thursday night. North Alabama, the tournament’s second seed with a record of 24-9, now advances to face top-seeded Lipscomb for the championship title on Sunday.
Lane was instrumental, contributing 19 points and six assists in the Lions’ victory. Ortiz supported the effort with 18 points, successfully making four 3-pointers out of nine attempts. Additionally, Will Soucie supplemented the team’s performance by adding 12 points to the scoreboard.
On the other side, the Dolphins, who finished their season at 19-13, were led by Robert McCray. McCray not only scored 19 points but also contributed six rebounds and five assists. Jakari Spence put up a valiant effort by scoring 14 points and achieving four steals. Chris Arias also contributed with 12 points.
The Lions seized control of the game halfway through the first period and did not look back. With 11:18 on the clock in the first half, North Alabama asserted their dominance, going into halftime with a 35-23 edge helped by Taye Fields, who scored 10 points during the first half. The second half saw North Alabama increase the intensity, embarking on a 9-0 run that extended their lead from nine to 18 points. Lane was pivotal in the final period, scoring a team-high 14 points.
