YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — In a thrilling match during the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals, Youngstown State emerged victorious over Purdue Fort Wayne with a score of 72-67. Nico Galette led the charge for the Penguins, delivering a standout performance with 22 points and also grabbing 10 rebounds.
Alongside Galette, Ty Harper was pivotal in Youngstown State’s success, contributing 20 points. He showcased accuracy by making 7 of 13 shots from the field, including hitting 3 of 7 from three-point territory and converting 3 of 4 free throws.
Cris Carroll added to the Penguins’ effort by scoring 11 points. Although he struggled a bit with his field goals, going 2 of 8 overall and missing all three of his three-point attempts, he was reliable from the free-throw line with a 7-for-9 performance. Carroll also played a key role in defense, collecting 12 rebounds throughout the game.
On the opposing side, the Mastodons of Purdue Fort Wayne were led by Quinton Morton-Robertson, who notched 21 points and made three valuable steals. Jalen Jackson was a notable player for the Mastodons as well, contributing 19 points and securing 11 rebounds.
During the first half of the game, Galette netted nine points as Youngstown State ended the half tied at 26 apiece with the Mastodons. Harper’s impressive performance, particularly in the second half with 16 points, was crucial in cementing the Penguins’ narrow five-point triumph.
