CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, while N.C. State’s Wes Moore has earned the title of Coach of the Year. The ACC announced these prestigious accolades on Tuesday, just ahead of the ACC Tournament set to kick off in Greensboro, North Carolina. The winners were selected based on votes counted from both the league’s head coaches and members of the media.
Sophomore guard Hidalgo, who stands as the third-highest scorer nationally with an average of 24.2 points, also received the honor of ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Teaming up with Olivia Miles, Hidalgo has been pivotal for the Fighting Irish, who were picked as preseason favorites. Their performance has been instrumental in the team securing a share of the regular-season championship, and they are currently ranked sixth nationally.
N.C. State, ranked seventh, managed to share the championship title and claimed the No. 1 seed due to defeating Notre Dame in a thrilling double-overtime encounter. The team’s progress was driven in part by sophomore guard Zoe Brooks, who was recognized as the league’s most improved player.
Further individual honors were awarded to Duke freshman forward Toby Fournier, who was named Rookie of the Year, and Georgia Tech freshman guard Dani Carnegie, who was praised as the league’s top sixth player.
Hidalgo and the nation’s top scorer, Ta’Niya Latson of Florida State, who averages 25.4 points and is ranked 22nd, secured spots on the all-ACC first team. This prestigious list also featured Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron from Notre Dame, alongside Zoe Brooks, Saniya Rivers, and Aziaha James representing N.C. State.
