Saquon Barkley is set to make history as the highest-paid running back in the NFL after his impressive performance led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory.
The Eagles are extending Barkley’s contract for two years, valued at $41.2 million, with a guaranteed $36 million, as shared by an unnamed source familiar with the terms who spoke on Tuesday. Although the contract extension remains unofficial, it is expected to include up to $15 million in additional incentives.
Barkley’s standout season saw him rush for an astounding 2,504 yards throughout the regular and postseason, surpassing the previous combined single-season rushing record set by Terrell Davis. He recorded 2,005 yards during the regular season and missed an opportunity to challenge Eric Dickerson’s all-time single-season record by sitting out the final game.
The Eagles initially acquired Barkley on a three-year contract worth $37.75 million during the previous free agency period, after his former team, the New York Giants, opted not to retain him following his instrumental contribution to their roster since being the second overall draft pick in 2018.
