NoCo beats Weber St 68-63; ties for Big Sky title

    OGDEN, Utah — On Monday night, Northern Colorado secured a significant triumph against Weber State, closing with a 68-63 win in what marked the finale of the Big Sky Conference regular season. This victory allowed the Bears to clinch a share of the regular-season title.

    Northern Colorado concluded their season with a record of 23-8 overall and 15-3 in the conference, sharing championship status with Montana but taking the coveted top seed for the upcoming conference tournament, which will be held in Boise, Idaho. With this top seeding, the Bears are set to bypass the first round, advancing directly to the second round scheduled for Sunday. They will face off against the winner of Saturday’s contest between the No. 10 seed Sacramento State and the No. 9 seed Weber State, which finished its season at 11-21 overall and 5-13 in conference play.

    Jaron Rillie emerged as a standout player for Northern Colorado, driving the team with an impressive 24 points and contributing significantly on the boards with eight rebounds. His efforts were supported by Isaiah Hawthorne, who chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds, as well as Marcell McCreary who added 14 points to the scoreboard.

    On the opposing side, Blaise Threatt was a key figure for Weber State, showcasing a robust performance with 29 points, eight rebounds, and contributing four assists and four steals. Trevor Henning also proved valuable to the Wildcats’ efforts, scoring 15 points and pulling down six rebounds.
