JACKSON, Miss. — Romelle Mansel made a notable contribution with 17 points and 12 rebounds, steering Jackson State to a win against Prairie View A&M, 88-74, on Monday night.
In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Mansel demonstrated his playmaking abilities with five assists for the Tigers (12-17, 12-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Shannon Grant also put up an impressive performance, adding 17 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Daeshun Ruffin was efficient from beyond the arc, converting all three of his 3-point attempts and contributing a total of 17 points as well.
For Prairie View A&M (5-25, 4-13), Braelon Bush emerged as the leading scorer, tallying 25 points. Both Elijah Terry and Marcel Bryant added critical support with 13 points each, also securing two steals and two blocks for their team.
Currently, Jackson State is positioned just ahead of Bethune-Cookman, sitting in third place by a mere half-game. Meanwhile, they trail behind the leading Southern by two games with only two matches remaining in the regular season. Next, the Tigers will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in an away game on Thursday. On the other hand, Prairie View A&M is set to finish their regular season by hosting Texas Southern on Saturday.
