BEAUMONT, Texas — In a decisive victory, Lamar University defeated Nicholls State with a 65-53 score on Monday night. Leading the charge for the Cardinals was Alexis Marmolejos, who contributed 15 points and six rebounds, fortifying their position within the Southland Conference.
Ja’Sean Jackson also played an integral role in the triumph, adding 14 points on the board. Jackson’s performance included hitting 5 out of 10 from the field, although he struggled from long range, failing to make any of his three attempts. However, he showed precision at the free-throw line by making 4 out of 5 attempts. Meanwhile, Adam Hamilton delivered solid support, scoring 12 points with a 6 out of 12 shooting record.
For the Nicholls Colonels, Jamal West emerged as the standout performer, topping his team’s charts with 19 points and securing seven rebounds. In addition, Robert Brown III contributed 10 points to Nicholls’ efforts.
This win was significant for Lamar, as it not only secured their victory over a close competitor but also granted them the second seed placement for the forthcoming conference tournament starting Sunday. As a result of their standings, Lamar will benefit from a double-bye heading into the semifinals. Nicholls, as the third seed, will enjoy a first-round bye as they prepare for their next challenge.
