LOS ANGELES — In a thrilling encounter on Saturday night, Ryan Hollingshead scored in the 86th minute, leading Los Angeles FC to a narrow 1-0 victory over New York City FC.

The decisive goal came from a counter-attack when Hollingshead capitalized on a failed clearance attempt by NYCFC. He swiftly seized a loose ball and executed a powerful one-touch shot from the right-center of the box, securing Los Angeles’ lead.

Hugo Lloris was a defensive pillar for LAFC, making three crucial saves. After achieving 12 shutouts in his rookie MLS season last year, Lloris has impressively maintained a clean sheet record so far this season, as LAFC improves to a 2-0-0 standing.

Despite the loss, New York City FC (0-1-1) enjoyed a slight edge in ball possession with 51% and recorded more shots on goal with 11 attempts compared to LAFC’s eight.

However, the match was marred for NYCFC by an early setback. Tayvon Gray, a promising 22-year-old homegrown talent who had already missed the season opener due to a leg injury sustained in the preseason, was forced off the pitch with another injury in just the eighth minute. He was substituted by Mitja Ilenic.
