NEW YORK — Sam Brown delivered a standout performance as he scored 42 points, leading Pennsylvania to a 92-87 victory over Columbia on Saturday.
This achievement marked only the fourth instance of a 40-point game in the school’s history and was the highest since 1989. Brown fell just five points short of matching the school’s record.
Brown demonstrated exceptional precision by making 14 out of 20 shots, with 4 of those from three-point range, and converting 10 out of 11 free throws for the Quakers, who now hold a record of 8-18 overall and 4-9 in the Ivy League. Complementing his efforts, Nick Spinoso contributed 16 points while making 7 out of 10 shots from the field, alongside grabbing seven rebounds, providing five assists, and blocking three shots. Ethan Roberts chipped in with 13 points as he shot 4 for 12, including making 3 out of 9 shots from three-point territory.
On the other side, the Lions were led by Kenny Noland, who scored 21 points, topping the scoring list for Columbia, who now have a record of 12-14 and 1-12 in conference play. Blair Thompson added a strong performance with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa contributed 13 points. Unfortunately, this game marked Columbia’s sixth consecutive loss.
Looking ahead, both teams will return to action on Saturday. Pennsylvania is set to visit Princeton, while Columbia will travel to face Cornell.
