HAMILTON, N.Y. — American University secured a victory over Colgate with a score of 67-59 on Saturday, fueled by Matt Rogers who contributed 20 points.
Rogers also grabbed five rebounds for the Eagles (19-12, 13-5 Patriot League). Teammate Greg Jones chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds, while Matt Mayock added eight points, shooting 2 of 5 from the field and 2 for 4 from beyond the arc.
On the other side, the Raiders (13-18, 10-8) were led by Chandler Baker and Parker Jones, each scoring 13 points. Jalen Cox supported the team with 10 points, four assists, and three steals.
American seized control of the match late in the first half, taking a commanding lead with 6:06 to go, ultimately never relinquishing it. Wyatt Nausadis was pivotal in the first half, scoring eight points to help the Eagles secure a 34-26 lead at halftime. Rogers then took over in the second half, adding 16 more points to cement the eight-point triumph.
With this win, American and Bucknell find themselves tied at the top for the regular-season championship. Pending the results of later games, American holds the potential to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Meanwhile, Colgate finished third in the standings. The competition is set to kick off on Tuesday.
