In Manchester, there was a bit of a stir during Manchester United’s match against Ipswich when Alejandro Garnacho reacted to being substituted before halftime. The young player made his way straight to the dressing room after being replaced by Noussair Mazraoui. This change was necessary after Patrick Dorgu received a red card, prompting coach Ruben Amorim to adjust the team’s setup.
Typically, players who are substituted are expected to remain with their teammates on the bench if they are not injured. After Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory, Amorim mentioned his plan to discuss the situation with the Argentine forward. On Friday, he humorously explained the misunderstanding, “The next day, Garnacho came to my office. I checked into things, and it turns out he went to change clothes because he was soaked. He watched part of the game from a different spot instead of the bench. He returned at the end of the game and headed home – no big issue.”
However, Amorim emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive image at a prestigious club like Manchester United. To reinforce this lesson, he suggested a lighthearted consequence for Garnacho. “At Manchester United, every detail matters, and perception is key. So, he’ll buy dinner for the entire team, and that will be the end of it,” Amorim stated.
Garnacho’s exclusion from the squad was noted once before, during a game against Manchester City in December. At that time, Amorim stressed the importance of upholding high standards at such an esteemed club. He described Garnacho as a young player who is in the process of learning these values. “What’s important is that the next morning, he came to talk to me,” Amorim explained.
Looking forward, Garnacho is anticipated to be in the lineup as Manchester United faces Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
